The Thinking Behind Orbis Studio

The story behind Orbis Studio: why it was founded, the values that shape every project, and where the studio is headed next.

Plenty of businesses end up with a website that never really earns its place: something rushed, cheaply put together, or built without much thought for the business behind it. It works, technically, but it does not help. Orbis Studio exists because there is a better way to do this, and it does not have to take months, cost a fortune, or leave a business with a site that never quite fits. It starts, more than anything, with a set of values that shape the work before a single page gets designed.

Where It Started

The idea behind Orbis Studio came from years spent working across the digital and design world, more than 15 years in total, watching the same pattern repeat itself. Producing a genuinely good website has never been more accessible or affordable, and yet the gap between good and average results has barely closed. Somewhere between the idea for a website and the finished product, a lot of businesses are being let down: by templates that do not fit, by processes that drag on, or by a lack of proper design thinking at any stage.

Orbis Studio was built to close that gap, one project at a time, starting with a simple belief: a website should genuinely help the business it belongs to, not just exist as a placeholder online.

What Orbis Believes In

A handful of core ideas shape how every project gets approached, regardless of size or budget.

Craft With Purpose

A website should look good and do its job. Design that is purely decorative, with no thought for how someone actually uses the site or what the business needs it to achieve, is never considered finished. Every choice, from layout to the smallest interaction, should serve a clear purpose. Good design and good performance are not separate goals to be balanced against each other; they are meant to happen together.

Speed Without Shortcuts

Projects typically move quickly, often complete within days rather than weeks. That pace comes from experience and a clear, carefully considered process, not from rushing or cutting corners. Speed and quality are never treated as a trade off, one is not sacrificed for the other. If anything, working efficiently leaves more room to focus on getting the details right, rather than less.

Straight Talking, No Overselling

Jargon, inflated promises, and unnecessary complexity have no real place in this kind of work. Clients deserve clear explanations and honest advice, even when that means saying a particular feature, page, or approach simply is not needed. Overpromising might win a client in the short term, but it rarely leads to a website, or a relationship, that lasts.

Considered, Not Templated

Every business is different, and a website should reflect that. Generic templates might be quick to set up, but they rarely capture what actually makes a business worth choosing. Time is taken to understand what each client needs before any design work begins, rather than fitting them into a one size fits all mould and hoping it works well enough.

Why It Matters

These values exist because building a website is rarely just about the website itself. It is about giving a business the tools to be taken seriously, to be found by the right people, and to make a strong first impression, all without the process becoming a drain on time, money, or patience.

Orbis Studio is based in the Uckfield area of East Sussex, though the values above matter more than the postcode. They shape every project taken on, regardless of the size of the business or the scope of the work involved, and they are the reason a project gets turned down if it does not fit, rather than taken on just to fill a gap in the schedule.

Where Orbis Studio Is Headed

The plan is for Orbis Studio to grow into a proper, standing studio, working with a wider range of businesses over time while holding onto the same principles it started with. Quality should never need to be sacrificed for speed, and good design should never need to come with a hefty price tag or a drawn out process attached. As Orbis Studio grows, these values are what will stay fixed, even as the projects, clients, and challenges change.

This is just the beginning. More to come soon.
